Seaman Dies . Suddenly.— A seaman who served many years in sailing ships, Mr Ralf John Leighton, collapsed and died no No. 2 wharf at Lyttelton yesterday morning as he was leaving the coastal motor-vessel Ratanui to go ashore. Mr Leighton, who was 64, was born at Nelson, and was for some years in the lighthouse service. He was a member of the crew of the French barque France when that vessel took part in the last sailing race from New Zealand against the barque Rewa in 1923. An inquest will be opened at Christchurch this morning.
