DEVELOPMENT OF RESERVES
WINTER ACTIVITIES BY COUNCIL STAFF
An extensive programme of planting in the 800 acres of scenic parks and reserves controlled by the Christchurch City Council keeps the staff of the parks and reserves department busy in spite of wintry weather. Before it reverts to maintenance in September, the department plans to plant 8000 or 9000 trees on the Port Hills and other reserves, including 3000 in Kennedy’s Bush. ' In addition to the planting, there are at present five new greens and tees under construction at the Rawhiti golf course? The major job of pining the high-pressure water supply for more than a mile from Victoria Park to the Sign of the Kiwi is also under way.
