AUCTION SALE FOR MISSION’S WORK
The- Methodist Central Mission is making an appeal for old jewellery, antiques and good used furniture for a community auction sale, to be held as soon as enough goods are available, to raise funds for maintaining and extending its welfare work. Goods may be left at the mission’s headquarters in Cathedral square or collected by van. To meet the need of the many old people urgently requiring the type of care provided at Wesley Lodge, the home will be extended soon, but it is necessary to add considerably to the grant from the Royal cinema performance to carry out this work, said the superintendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E. Falkingham) yesterday. The mission’s board of management will consider taking in elderly persons needing geriatric care and nursing attention when Wesley Lodge is extended, he said. Proceeds from the auction sale will also go towards the maintenance of Rehua Hostel for Maori aprentices, to the mission’s hot meal service for the aged and general relief in cases of distress. Gifts already received for the auction include a radio valued at £2O. two diamond engagement rings and a gold pendant, Mr Falkingham said.
