RUGBY LEAGUE

HAIG CAPTAIN OF N.Z. TEAM (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 16. J. S. Haig, the half-back, was appointed the New Zealand Rugby League captain for the matches against the English team at a meeting last evening of the New Zealand Rugby League’s Council. Haig, a former All Black, was captain against the Australians last year. Referees Appointed Five referees were appointed to the panel from which the English managers will make their selections for the test matches. They are W. Wilkinson (Canterbury), R. Avery (South Auckland), E. Seagar (Auckland), J. Griffens (West Coast), and G. Kelly (Auckland). They have been given the following matches to control in which the Englishmen will play: Maoris, Mr Kelly; Wellington, Mr Griffens; South Island, Mr Wilkinson; Canterbury, Mr Avery; Taranaki, Mr Seagar.
