RELATIONS WITH UNITED STATES

Sir,—The exchange of students and university persons between America and New Zealand will help cultural relations. Likewise, this country is indebted to the United States for much published scientific data in all the professions. There are many Americans of goodwill, for which we are thankful. The other side of the American scene cannot be painted so brightly. Why must we have their bombers flying over our country? Is New Zealand to become another American base? Many people will associate the visit of these bombers with the American war behaviour in Korea and •the threat of it in Vietnam. Let New Zealand follow the British lead in warning America that it has gone too far.—Yours, etc., P J A. June 13, 1954.
