LABOUR PARTY POLICY
Sir,—l did not use the word “fools” for persons who disagreed with my opinions, \but for those who had, in the past, supported Labour and afterwards voted for the National Party/ and that other class, who, earning only £351 a year, believed all the false and malicious Tory propaganda. I withdraw the word fools and will say those people who in 1949 believed the promises that were not kept and in 1951 were scared by a bogy that did not exist were simply misled. One of the accusations hurled at the Labour Party was that it forbade the importing of cars. It did not. For obvious reasons there were few cars to be imported for several years after the war ended. This shortage of supply accounted also for many other things complained of by “60 Years a Worker.” This fhct was persistently ignored by the Tories during the elections.—Yours, etc., A.F.P. June 12, 1954.
