STRADBROKE WON BY KARENDI RISING FAST FINISHES WELL FOR FOURTH (N.Z. Press Assbciation —Copyright) BRISBANE, June 13. Karendi yesterday justified the confidence of his trainer, Jack Green, and jockey, W. Camer, by carrying top weight of 9-2 to win the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm by a length and a quarter, in Imin which is only 3 s ec outside the course record. Karendi never at any stage looked like losing the race, and had it. won a long way frpm the winning post. He was one of the first away from the barrier, and Camer was then content to restrain him in third place, behind Gay Vista and Hallmaster, until near tine home turn. Camer then allowed Karendi his head, and, going around the outside of Gay Vista, he hit the front passing the Leger, and went on to win easily. The New Zealand horse. Rising Fast, put up a good performance to finish fourth after being among the tail-enders in the early stages. Rising Fast, at 20 to 1, finished gamely, but from his barrier number (26) was out wide all the way. The other New Zealand horses, Paper Strip (33 to 1) and Wakatu (25 to 1), were not likely winners at any stage. Bookmakers face heavy liabilities over Karendi’s success, as he has been coupled with most Brisbane Cup runners. Takatu was fourth in a four-horse field in the P. J. O’Shea Stakes. He finished two lengths behind the third horse, and drops 51b in the Brisbane Cup. As he needed yesterday’s race and held on well it was a fair cup trial. The time was only Isec outside the State record. Principal results: — P. J. O’SHEA STAKES, Of £l5OO. Weight-for-age. One mile and a quarter. GALLANT ARCHER 9-0 .. Munro 1 Euphrates 9-1 .. ..
