NEW TOPDRESSING AIRCRAFT

U.S. DESIGN FOR N.Z. CONDITIONS An American-designed topdressing aircraft, built specially for New Zealand conditions, will soon be available as a replacement for the Tiger Moths at present used by most operators. Mr Lawson Field, president of the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand. gave details of the aircraft, the Fletcher FU24, at a meeting of the Sydney branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society recently. Built by the Fletcher Aviation Corporation, of Pasadena, California, after investigations in New Zealand by the firm’s president (Mr Wendell S. Fletcher). the FU24 is expected to carry a pay-load of about half a ton. /compared with the quarter-ton carried by the Tiger Moth an.d the three-quarters of a ton carried by the Beaver. About 100 of the Fletcher agricultural aircraft would be built for the New Zealand market, said Mr Field. Production had already begun. Associated with the development of this special aircraft for topdressing were the proposals at present under negotiation with the Meat and Wool Boajds for financing operators.
