WELCOME FOR FIRST TEAL DC.6

CONSIDERATION BY CITY COUNCIL

A welcome for the first Tasman Empire Airways DC-6 airliner is being considered by the Christchurch City Council. The Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane. 'M.P.) said on Friday that the occasion should be marked by some suitable ceremony. Customs, health and security requirements did, however, present some difficulties. The new service will open on June 29 with the landing of’the first TEAL DC-6 on Harewood at 7.10 a.m.

A warm room would be necessary for the welcome, considering the time and the season, said Mr RJiacfarlane. It would be. ideal to welcome the crew and passengers of the aircraft briefly as soon as they had left the aircraft. If possible, this would be done.
