DRAINAGE BOARD CRITICISED
MAIREHAU RESIDENTS SEEK INQUIRY
A commission of inquiry into the question of drainage and sewerage within the area controlled by the Christchurch Drainage Board has been requested by the Mairehau Residents’ Association in a letter it has written to" the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Marshall). The association said that at an executive meeting it ...had been decided to ask for a comrrftssion of inquiry, on the ground that the unreticulated and rapidly growing urban areas of metropolitan Christchurch, because of discharge of sullage into open drains and lack of sewerage, had become a danger to public health. The association also claimed that the board “by its lack of foresight and vision” had failed in its function to carry out within its boundaries adequate drainage and sewerage as required by the rapidly growing metropolitan areas of the city of Christ--church.
