WAD OF STRANGE BANK NOTES

GATHERINGS OF WORLD TRAVELLER Bank notes from 10 countries, mos' of them Asian, and some of which ar experienced bank officer had never seen, were produced in a fistful by Mr M. W. Unstead, a British radar specialist, at the Christchurch airport on Friday morning. During a world tour Mr Unstead has collected in his wallet Malayan dollars, Ceylonese rupees, Burmese kyats, Pakistan rupees, Indian rupees, Japanese yen, Siamese ticals, Hong Kong dollars, United States dollars and New Zealand pounds. Also included in the rubber-band bound wad were three brown notes which Mr Unstead said represented “real money—sterlmMr Unsteadi as Far Eastern and Pacific representative of the Decca Company of England was, in New Zealand, interested in trials being made by the Royal New Zealand Air Force of airfield control radar development by his company. “The outcome of these tests at Ohakea will determine whether the system is used by the civil aviation authorities as well as the Air Force. The same type of equipment is in use with the Royal Air Force,” he said. Another transaction by his firm in New Zealand was the supply of harbour control radar to the Westport Harbopr Board.
