HYDRO DEVELOPMENT AFTER ROXBURGH
MINISTER’S REPLY TO LOCAL BODIES
Any scheme to come after Roxburgh will depend upon the rate of increase in load after the scheme commences operation, according to a letter from the Minister in charge of the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr W. S. Goosman) to the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. “The rate of in; crease is expected to cause the firs: half of the Roxburgh plant of 160,000 k.w. to be fully loaded by 1962, and the completed installation of 320,000 k.w. to be fully loaded by 1967. “On this basis, therefore, a decision as to the next scheme to be selected for development is not necessary until, say, 1959 or 1960. “Development of special large loads, such as fertiliser manufacture and the like, could cause to be fully loaded before 1967, and I can assure your association that the Government will take appropriate action when it is made aware of such special developments.”
