MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING
ROSS SHIELD WON BY NORTH ISLAND MARGIN OF 12 POINTS IN MATCH (New Zealand Press Association) a c , TEMUKA, June 6. Scoring well in the early matches, the North Island miniature rifle team established a small lead over the South Island, team, sufficient to give them victory and the Ross Shield in the Inter-Island shoot at Temuka on Saturday. Only 12 points separated the two teams at the end of the shoot, North Island scoring 7948.598 points to the South Island’s 7936.572. The standard of shooting was high throughout the afternoon and evening, with some fine individual performances. Most notable of these were the tour possibles shot by T. Kendall and R. Weston (Manawatu). D. Smith (Hutt Valley), H. Hughes (Wanganui), and C. Thom, and I. Ballinger (Christchurch). The veteran South Canterbury shooter, W. T. Taylor, shot three possibles and a 99.7. This win in the Ross Shield contest is the second in succession for the North Island. Honours in the contest are now level at three-all. The next shoot will be held in Auckland.
