WEST COAST BEATEN
3014 WIN FOR AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) _ GREYMOUTH, June 8. The West Coast senior representative Rugbs’ League team was beaten by a strong Auckland team at Greymouth today by 30 points to 14. At no stage during the match did it seem likely that the West Coast could extend the viJting team. Auckland was superior in all departments, and, at times, left the West Coast team dumbfounded. The star of the match was W. Sorensen, who outclassed G. Menzies, the Kiwi five-eighths, every time the ball came his way. Mis keen anticipation, with His combination with C. Eastlake, paved the way for the pace-packed Auckland tries. The neatly-executed reverse passes and scissors movements of the Auckland backs thrilled a crowd of more than 5000. Auckland’s victory could in no way be attributed to the West Coast team’s hesitancy in attack. The Auckland thirteen merely outpaced and outwitted them. For Auckland tries were scored by Ack(2), Grey (2), and Austin (2). D. White kicked two penalties and converted four tries.
For West Coast, Hay and W. McLennan scored tries. L. McNichol kicked two penalties and converted two tries.
