1500 METRE TIME A RECORD (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, June 5. Wes Santee, the foremost United States miler, ran a mile in 4min o.6sec yesterday at Compton, California. Santee had announced previously he would attempt to break the record established by Roger Bannister, of England. Santee’s time was a new American record and the world’s second fastest time, beating Santee’s own 4min I.3sec of last week. Santee bettered the world’s 1500 metre record on the way 'to the mile and it was announced that an application would be made for recognition. The 1500 metre record is now held jointly by Gundar Haegg, Lenhart Strand, and Werner Luegg at 3min 43sec. Santee’s time was 3min 42.8 sec.
