Gunners’ Reunion

The 4th Field Regiment, one of three 25-pounder regiments in the 2nd N.Z.E.F., will hold a three-day reunion at Wellington this week-end. Claimed to be the oldest and longest-serving unit in the 2nd N.Z.E.F., the regiment was formed at Ngaruawahia Camp on September 7, 1939. One battery, the 25th, was sent to Japan with the original J Force from Italy and was not disbanded until May, 1947. The regiment fought in every major action in which the New Zealand Division was involved. At Cassino, between early February, 1943, and late May, the gunners worked round the clock and fired 243,000 rounds at the enemy.
