K Force Grows Own Vegetables

(NdZ. Army Information Service) KOREA, June 2.

Fifteen hundred tomato plants have been bought in Japan by the 16th Field Regiment for planting m the regimental garden in Korea. It is all part of a “grow your own” campaign which the regiment has been working on this spring. The plants were bought from the Japanese Government organisation which is the equivalent of New Zealand’s Department of Agriculture. They were flown from Kure to Korea. The day after they arrived, replanting work w r as started. - The regiment’s first vegetables, lettuce, should be ready to eat in about a month. In fact, the whole scheme which started out on ap experimenta basis, is £oing well. Cabbage, cucum ber and pumpkin are all up. Witl tomatoes to add to the list the reg; ment should be assured in a few week; of a steady supply of fresh homegrown vegetables.
