PUBLICAN’S RECORD COMMENDED

LICENSING COMMITTEE’S CONGRATULATIONS The Christchurch Licensing Committee yesterday complimented Mr J. R. Franks on his record in the licensed trade. “There is only one other matter, said the chairman (Mr F. F. Reid, S. when the committee had completed its formal business yesterday afternoon. “It is in connexion with the Prince of Wales Hotel. The committee is informed that Mr Franks, the licensee, has just retired after 43 years in the licensed trade, including 35 years in the Prince of Wales. There is no record of his ever having been convicted of a licensing offence. In my experience the police reports on his conduct of his hotel have been excellent. I have personally been associated with the licensed trade for 35 years as a practitioner' and then as a chairman of licensing committees and I can say that in my experience his record is unique.” The chairman said the committee would like to congratulate Mr Franks and wish him a happy retirement. “Thank you for your remarks,” said Mr Franks, Hsing from his seat at the back of the Court room.
