ROYAL VISIT TO UGANDA
LETTERS ADDRESSED TO GOVERNOR ENTEBBE (Uganda), March 25. Copies of letters telling Sir Andrew Cohen, Governor of Uganda, that he would be responsible for any harm done to the Queen in Uganda, were sent to Kampala newspapers yesterday. The letters, addressed to Sir Andrew Cohen, said that the Queen was not aware of the state of hatred in Uganda, and described Sir Andrew as the “most tactless Governor in the colonial empire.” The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are scheduled to arrive in Uganda on April 28 for a two-day visit. Meanwhile, immediate plans to expand the Uganda police force by 40 per cent, have been announced. Radio cars will be introduced and mobile police raiding parties will be set up if necessary.
One letter was signed "Bakopi”—a peasant—but officials said it had obviously not been written by a peasant. The police public relations officer said that the Uganda people were addicted to writing anonymous letters. “These rarely portend any action,” he said.
