N.Z. HIMALAYAN EXPEDITION
THREE PEAKS TO BE TACKLED
(Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 25. Sir Edmund Hillary and Mr George Lowe reached Sydney from New Zealand today on their way to the Himalayas. There they plan to tackle three peaks—Baruntese (23,800 ft Chamlang (24,012 ft and Amadablam (22,300 ft Sir Edmund Hillary has put on some weight since he last was here and admits to being 101 b heavier. “But I will take that off walking across Nepal in the next couple of weeks,” he explained.
He said his expedition of eight New Zealanders and two Englishmen would not carry oxygen as they would not have to climb above 24,000 ft. The peaks they intended to climb this time were technically more difficult than Everest, the world’s highest mountain. Sir Edmund Hillary said he would like to climb in South America, but the dollar problem barred that.
