IRRIGATION
Sir, —I consider the personal attack on Mr McArthur and the criticism of your recent leading article made by a nom-de-plume correspondent, “Slim Slim,” was most unwarranted. In any case, when making a personal attack, he should have had the courage to sign his name. However, the main concern of the majority is to extend where possible a system calculated to increase production and strengthen our economic life for the benefit of the whole community. Irrigation, the world over, is regarded as a potent factor. Most of those thoroughly conversant with the subjectwould rightly commend the special effort of the Progress League, supported by leading experts. Canterbury in the past has done tod much slimming, and the time is overdue for all sections of the finest province in the Dominion to support sound expansion.—Yours, etc., PRIME CANTERBURY. March* 24, 1954.
