APPRENTICESHIP APPEAL
Decision was reserved by the Arbitration Court in Christchurch yesterday on an appeal by the Canterbury Printing Trades’ Apprenticeship Committee against a decision of a Magistrate (Mr J. A. Gilmore) who, acting as a delegate of the Court, allowed we appeal of W. E. Richards and Sol Ltd., of Hokitika, against refusal w the committee to grant the company» application to apprentice Ronald AliaSinger. Mr Justice Tyndall presiaw over the Court. . Mr B. J. Drake, who appeared lor the company, said that there was: nJ doubt that the firm had the properly to teach an apprentice. Ew dence showed that Mr W. J. managing director of the firm, himself qualified to teach an apP re! f tice the letterpress machining P art r the trade, and a journeyman comP tor was also employed at the worKS. Mr Drake submitted that the a PP e3 j must fail because the committee na° not discharged its onus to show the opinion of the Magistrate wa? demonstrably wrong.
