“COMING MY WAYART UNION

£3OOO PRIZE WON IN CHRISTCHURCH

“I was so excited I almost cried," said Mrs Betty Williamson, of Christchurch, after she had been told that her ticket in the “Coming My Way" art union had brought her first prize of £3OOO. But yesterday afternoon, when their first excitement had passed, both she and her husband, Mr Tom Williamson, were calmly pleased about their unexpected win and had decided to lodge the money in the bank and use it as they needed it. “I had the radio on while I was doing my work, and turned it up a bit when I heard the art union being drawn,” said Mrs Williamson. “When I heard the nom-de-plume ‘Our Shed,’ I thought, ‘That sounds like us.’ ” Then she found it was actually her ticket that had won, and the excitement began. The “bush telegraph” also began to operate, and within an unbelievably short time, Mrs Williamson was being congratulated by neighbours, some of them even more excited than she. Her husband, a reserved man who works as a machinist at the Addingtpn workshops, was not told the news until he arrived home for lunch. “Then I couldn’t go back to work,’’ he said. Apart from first impulses, Mr and Mrs Williamson have not decided what they are going to do with the £3OOO. The purchase of a car and a refrigerator is probable. The Press Association reports the results as follows:
