STOCK EXCHANGES WEEK CLOSES VERY FIRMLY A relatively heavy list of business for a Friday was handled by the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Markets continued to rise, and price, gains largely exceeded falls. Among Government stocks, short-dated 3 per were in very keen demand, and three parcels of these changed hands, leaving most would-be buyers with their orders unfilled. At the close there was a remarkable scarcity of sellers. Banking issues enjoyed a respite while investors took stock of the position. Insurances and loans remained uncompromisingly solid, but woollens were unusually quiet. DOMINION TRANSACTIONS
