CHRISTMAS CAROLS AND POETRY
NATIVITY PLAY ALSO PRESENTED Interpretations of Christmas in poems, carols, and in the Nativity play were given to an audience at the St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Christchurch, last evening. Religious plays were the first form of drama in England in the Middle Ages, and last evenjng a group of eight young players showed that such a play could be just as enjoyable and just as new as it was many centuries ago. Preceding the play itself was a small sketch of the beginnings of this particular production—the way each person in the group could fit his own life into the fabric of the drama. The first half of the programme at the hall comprised carols sung by a small choir, and Christmas poems read by a group of three. Readings ranged from fifteenth century verse to the work of contemporary poets.
