WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED
PLAQUE IN CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL A memorial plaque in the Christchurch Hospital commemorating the service given by 212 members of the North Canterbury Hospital Board during World War II was unveiled yesterday. The names of three members who were killed—Dr. J. R. M. Nicholson, N.Z.M.C., Pilot Officer M. J. A. Kirby, R.A.F., and Sister A. S. Crampton, N.Z.A.N.S.—are engraved on the plaque. The unveiling ceremony was attended by relatives of those who were killed, by members of the board, and by returned servicemen and servicewomen on the board’s staff. The stone plaque is placed in the main corridor of the Christchurch Hospital next to the memorial to those who served in World War I. Colonel D. G. Radcliffe, the senior Army officer on the staff, unveiled the memorial after a short speech had been made by the chairman of the board (Mr V. C. Lawn). The ceremony concluded with prayers led by the hospital chaplain (Canon A. H. Williams).
