CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT AT KAIKOURA

More than £l4 was raised for the hospital Christmas comforts fund by the Kaikoura Musical Society at a presentation of carols by candlelight in the grounds of the Kaikoura District High School. Japanese lanterns were hung from the trees. The choir sang at the hospital and in the west end of the township before marching along the Esplanade to the school singing “O Come All Ye Faithful.” The matron of the hospital (Miss D. Hall) thanked the society for its visit. The society’s choir was under the baton of Mr E. R. Pitman, and the orchestral accompaniment comprised Miss E. C. Battersby (piano) and Messrs H. Austin (trumpet). D. Simpson (trombone), I. Strahl (violoncello), and F. Taylor (saxophone).
