HORNBY CLUB’S 10-MILE RACE Twenty-seven riders competed in the Hornby Cycling Club’s weekly 10-miie <road race, held at Hornby on Mortday evening. H. Sutherland, riding from the Imin mark, won after a sprint in which about 17 riders took part. In the best finish the club has had for some years, Sutherland just managed to pass F. Chapman in the last 10 yards, with J. Wildermoth and W., Walker only inches behind. The rest of the field was bunched just behind them. Sutherland’s winning time of 24m in 25sec was only lOsec outside the fastest, time. At the turn, the riders off smin, R. Turner, B. Colenso, and R. Meiklejohn, were 20sec in front of the 4min riders, D Yaxley. N. Briggs, L. Finch, and D. Kennedy, with 40sec to I. Shadbolt, M. Yaxley, G. Sutton, J. Smolenskie. and J. Moyse. Forty-five seconds later, K. Sutherland, W. Walker, A. Howison, and B. Tweedie turned, with ijmin riders 20sec behind. There was a gap of 35sec to the scratch riders, F. Leatham, O. Duffy, B. Woodgate, and J. Blance. With two miles to go, the 15min riders were about 400 yards in front of the Smin and ljmin riders, with about 300 yards to those off scratch. In the sprint, Duffy gained fastest time, 24min 15sec, from Leatham, Woodgate, and Blance.
