FISHING RIVERS IN CANTERBURY

WEEK-END REPORT FOR ANGLERS The Selwyn and Ashley rivers were clear and fishable at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, according to advice received from the Canterbury Anglers’ Club and the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. The Halswell was fishable, but with some loose weed and grass still moving. The Hurunui, Lower Rakaia, Waimakariri, Waiau, Ashburton, Rangitata and Opihi rivers were high and dirty, with little prospect of clearing over the week-end. The Upper Rakaia was in flood. At Lake Coleridge and at Highbank the weather was overcast with north-west winds. In the £ass-Avoca district it had been raining heavily for two days, but had cleared yesterday afternoon. It was then calm but with low cloud and prospects of more rain. A. special anglers’ weather forecast said that the weather would remain overcast this morning with light north-east winds on the coast and north-west winds in the back country. The weather was expected to clear in the afternoon, with winds from a northerly quarter. Fine weather was expected tomorrow, with only light winds from the north.
