WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
Adelaide, Albury, And
Brisbane Sales
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) ADELAIDE, Dec. 2. The wool sale market at Adelaide was firm for fine wools and irregular for strong and burry lots. Russia is still buying fine wools. Crossbred prices were: 70’s, 104 d to 121 d; 64’s, 98d to 103 d; 60’s, 85d to 95d; 58's, 70d to 80d; 56’s, 57d to 65d. At Albury, crossbreds made up 65 per cent, of the offering. Competition was keen, and became more general as the sales progressed. The market was generally firm at the close on Melbourne sales, particularly for finer Merino. Lower topmaking sorts showed irregularity, and comebacks were irregular, with coarser crossbreds a shade easier. Pieces and bellies were fully firm. The chief buyers were East Europe, Britain, Japan, and local mills. Crossbreds ranged to 70’s at 136 d, and 60/64’s at At Brisbane there was a total clearance, with keen competition from almost all sections of the trade. The Continent led the buying with support from Japan and Britain. The market was more buoyant than on the previous two days. Compared with yesterday rates tended in sellers’ favour for all well-grown lines, particularly those possessing quality. There is still some irregularity in the poorer type of wools. The selection was representative of the principal woolgrowing areas in Queensland.
