TE WAI POUNAMU COLLEGE

REUNION OF OLD GIRLS Former pupils of Te Wai Pounamu College, including some from as far away as Dunedin, assembled in full orce at the Mayfair yesterday for a 5 to 7 buffet tea party. The president (Miss Kia Rewai) is at present in the Chatham Islands and her place was taken by Mrs T. E. Patea (hop. treasurer). Mrs R. A. Paku (hon. secretary), and other members The vicepresidents, representative of the various districts, include Mrs H. Walker (deputy-president), 1 .rs S. Baker, Mrs T. Wright, Mrs H. Korako. Mr; Awarua (North Island). Mrs Knight 'Southland), and Miss Tuuta (Chatham Islands). The patronesses are Mrs Daniels (headmistress of the Te Wai Pounamu College) and Mrs Joughin (a former headmistress).

Guests of honour were the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) and Mrs Warren, the Rev. H. L. R. Isherwood and Mrs Isherwood, Mr M. Jones, of the Department of Maori Affairs. Wellington, and Mr W. S. MacGibhon (president of the Friends nf Te Wai Pounamu) and Mrs Mac Gibbon. Songs were sung by two pupils of Te Wai Pounamu. who will leave the college at the end of the present termone to take up tea?b’ng and the other train as a nurse. Thev were Marina Christie, the holder of the Te Wai Pounamu old girls’ scholarship, and Peti Munro.

Specially invited guests were representatives of the executive council of the Old Girls’ Association, and the ’•epresentafives of the following kindred associations: Timaru. Christchurch West Christchurch, Southland •and Waifaki High Schoo’s. Selwyn House. St. Mary's. St. Hilda's. Nelson Girls’. St. Margaret's, and Columba Colleges. Convent of the Sacred Heart, Ransi-ruru, and Craighead. Miss Bertram (president of the executive council) expressed appreciation of Te Wai Pounamu’s hosuitalty and short addresses of congratulation, encouragement, and good wishes were given by B'shon Warren. Mr Isherwood. and Mr Jones.
