MAGISTRATE’S COURT

John Henry Le Grand, a Dutch subject, pleaded guilty before Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M in the Lyttelton Magistrates Court yesterday, to a charge of being found without lawful excuse on the enclosed premises of Sarah McCormick, 68 Canterbury street, on the night of September 13. He pleaded guilty to a similar charge relating to the premises of Doris Buckingham, 1 Cunningham terrace, on the night of September 20. On a further charge of wilfully damaging a window to the extent of £2 ss, the property of Doris Buckingham, he pleaded not guilty. On each of the first two charges he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. He was ordered to pay costs. On the charge of breaking the window he was convicted and fined £l, with Donald Wilson Dalton pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligently obstructing the roadway of Norwich quay with a wire cable. He was convicted and fined £l, with costs. For loading a truck to the danger of the public, Robert Leslie Malden, who pleaded not guilty, was convicted and fined £l, with costs. George Alan Smith, a taxi-driver (Mr J. K. McMenamin). was fined £2, with costs, for failing to give way to traffic from the right. John Bentley Dawson, who did not appear, was charged with altering his age on a driving licence for the purpose of hiring a rental car. He was convicted and fined £2 10s, with costs. For parking in a non-parking area, Colin Follett was fined 10s. On a further charge of having no driver’s licence he was fined 15s. Elizabeth Jane Packer, licensee of the Wheatsheaf Hotel. Teddington (Mr W. F. Brown), pleaded guilty to selling liquor after hours. She was convicted and fined £6. For being on the licensed premises of the Wheatsheaf Hotel after hours, the following were each fined £l:—Nestor William Boyd, Olga Clare Boyd, Eric James Stock, Alice Stock, John Henry Castell, Janet Lesley Castell, and Iris R. Porterfield.
