SHOP AT NORTH NEW BRIGHTON

EXEMPTION FROM CLOSING HOURS GRANTED

An application by John Edward Rodgers, occupier of a stationery, booksellers, fancy goods, paint and hardware shop at 44 Bowhill road, North New Brighton, for exemption from the closing hours fixed by the Shops and Offices Act, was granted by Mr F. F. Reid. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Mr H. W. Thompson, on behalf of the Retail Shop Assistants’ Union, objected to the application being granted. Mr W. Mealings represented the Labour Department. The applicant said he began business on Tuesday and no-one in a similar line of business was nearer than New Brighton. He wanted to have the late night on Fridays and to close at 5.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
