CHRISTCHURCH HOTELS
LICENSING COMMITTEE MEETING
It is not a satisfactory state of airairs. We expect to have something clone by the March quarterly meeting or some definite proposal. The committee will give those concerned one more opportunity to do something on their own,” said Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., chairman of the Christchurch Licensing Committee, when the Excelsior Hotel was discussed by the committee at ite quarterly meeting. The other members of the committee were Messrs W. G. Carpenter, A. A. Dingwall, A. E. McPhail, and J. D. Gray. Inspector W. Miller, for the police, said that plans had been submitted and approved, for bringing the hotel up to the standard required by the Licensing Control Commission but no work had been done. Mr Reid said the committee approved plans at its September meeting but the commission had required the plans to be submitted by May 31, 1952. When the committee approved the plans it expected that the owners would give some indication of their intentions. Mr K. A. Gough, for the owners, said he understood that a great deal of the work had been done. Plans for alterations and improvements to McKendry’s Hotel and to the Provincial Hotel were approved. The following applications for transfers of licences were granted.—New Railway Hotel, from Robert Hunter Dickson to Robert Grigor. Provincial Hotel, from Norman Keith Boyd to Herbert Robert Woodley; Tattersall’s Hotel, from Patrick Joseph Keller to Robert Hunter Dickson. The police report stated that the conduct of hotels in the district had been satisfactory during the quarter.
