FLIGHTS DURING TOUR
Final Preparations By R.N.ZA.F. DAKOTA SOON TO COVER ENTIRE ROUTE (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, December 1. Final preparations for the flights which the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will make during their tour of New Zealand are now being made at Ohakea. Members of the Queen’s Flight have been in training at Ohakea, and within the next ‘ few days they will take a converted Dakota aircraft over the entire‘route the Royal party will fly. The flight will commence at Auckland and go as far as Christchurch and the West Coast. Although the main responsibility of flying the Queen is on the Royal New Zealand Air Force in its speciallyconverted Dakota, the National Airways Corporation will use one of its Heron aircraft for a short trip from Rotorua to Gisborne and back to Napier. During the tour itself Dakotas will be used to carry additional personnel, and a Royal New Zealand Air Force Bristol Freighter aircraft for any baggage.
