BALLOT FOR HOUSES
NINE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS
Thirty-five persons attended a ballot yesterday for nine State-built houses in Mitre place, Shirley, which were offered for sale by the State Advances Corporation. The original 51 applicants for the houses were reduced to 40 because unmarried persons were not| eligible. The winners in the ballot were'.'- 1 Mr and Mrs W. H. Pidgeon, No. 13, Mitre place, £3100: Mr and Mrs J. G.| Humphries, No. 14, £3000; Mr and Mrs E. A. Heney, No. 6. £2860; Mr and Mrs F. T. Ball, No. 8, £2875; Mr and Mrs H. J. Banks, No. 10, £2875; Mr and Mrs E. Cooper, No. 11, £2850; Mr and Mrs H. Laycock, No. 9. £2800; Mr and Mrs F. R. Wrigley, No. 15. £2930; Mr and Mrs J. R. Martin, No. 12, £2690. The greatest number of applications. 38, was received for the houses ai numbers 13 and 14 Mitre place. The manager of the Christchurch branch of the State Advances Corporation (Mr H. R. McKenzie) said that the houses were nearly completed. The financial terms for the successful applicants would be settled within a week but applicants still have the right to reject their houses. Because of this, three reserves had been drawn for each house. Mr McKenzie said that applications for five more houses being built in Hhrewood road would be received early next year.
