THE WAGE ORDER

Sir, —The recent wage increase is a great opportunity for the Labour City Council to put into practice the theory propounded by Mr F. P. Walsh and the Labour Party that in some mysterious way the increased wages can be (as they call it) absorbed without any or very little increase in costs to the public. Judging by the statements of the Mayor and C'r. T. H. McCombs, who can only suggest that the increases will have to go into the rates, the Labour Party has no more idea than anyone else how the increase can be "absorbed” without increasing costs. Some day the wage worker will realise that he has been led up the garden path by the Federation of Labour and the Labour Party on this question.— Yours, etc., COMMON SENSE. November 30, 1953.
