ROYAL AUCKLAND CUP
SOUTH ISLAND HORSES TO FLY NORTH
Reformed and Royal Tower will campaign in the' North Island before contesting the Royal Auckland Cup on December 26.
It was originally intended that Mr A. J. Brown's team would race at the Beaumont and Tapanui meetings, but arrangements have now been completed for the horses to race at Franklin, Waipa, and Ohinemuri.
Under the care of the stable horseman, K. J. Hollamby, Reformed and Royal Tower left by float for Christchurch yesteiday. They will travel by air to Wellington today, and will go by rail to Hamilton, where they will be stationed until after the Ohinemuri meeting on December 19.
Royal Tower will probably run in the Auckland Cup Trial, of one mile and a half, at Franklin on Saturday, and Reformed will contest the open sprint, the Paerata Handicap, of seven furlongs. At the Waipa meeting, to be held Awamutu on Saturday week, both horses have been nominated for the Te Awamutu Cup, of one mile and a quarter, and the Paterangi Handicap, of one mile. At the Ohinemuri meeting, to be held a week before the Auckland Cup, they have been entered for the Queen Elizabeth Plate, of one mile and a quarter, at weight-for-age, and the Freyberg Cup, one mile and a half. They will then be taken to Avondale, where they will be quartered during the Auckland meeting, because no accommodation is available at. Ellerslie.
Mr Brown will join his team next week. No riders have yet been engaged for the
lampaign. Two other South Island horses, Vales-
cure and Rio Negro, will also be flown from Harewood to Paraparaumu today. Valescure, a Riccarton r trained Auckland Cup candidate, is weighted at 8-2 for the big event. Rio Negro has been nominated for the Queen’s Hack Plate on the first day of the Auckland Club's meeting.
