CERCLE FRANCAIS
The final meeting fbr 1953 of the Christchurch Cercle Francais was held in Hay’s Lounge on Friday. A pleasant and varied programme was presented by the hostesses, Mrs M. Frankel, Mrs K. Vogan and Miss J. de Weppe. Miss Lee Wilson, accompanied on the piano by Mrs W. E. Olds, sang “Obstination,” by de Fortenaillis and “Elegie” by Massenet. Three French films were shown. Mr H. W. Beaumount acted as projectionist. They were “Fenetres sur les Fleurs,” “Zangabelle a Paris” and ‘Tor du Rhone.” Two pianoforte pieces were then played by Mrs Olds, “Automne” and Air de Ballet,” both by Chaminade. Mr G. Troup, on behalf of the cercle members, presented a handsome leather waltet to Mrs I. Lough, the
secretary-treasure of the cercle, who will leave next month for a year’s stay in Europe. Mr A. Arts and Mr M. Golding were elected secretary and treasurer respectively for 1954.
