WINTER COMES TO KOREA
Welfare Problem In K Force (N.Z. Army Information Service) e KOREA, November 26. As winter settles in Korea, the welfare of the men in K Force becomes increasingly important. Their physical needs are catered for by a special issue of winter clothing and their tents are specially prepared for protection against the winds, but as days grow colder and nights longer, it becomes necessary to provide amenities which help them to while away the long offduty hours. The man responsible lor that is Padre R. H. Rangiihu, of Ohinemutu, Rotorua. He successfully combines the duties of chaplain and welfare officer for the 16th Field Regiment. The most recent acquisition for the two welfare tents which were erected a few weeks ago is a small Japanese piano with two octaves less than the normal standard piano. It is small in keyboard range as well as in size, but it is just what was needed. There are enough pianists available in the regito brighten many an evening. I think this welfare work is most important, said Mr Rangiihu. “We will be able to accommodate about 180 men each night.” When the material can be obtained Mr Rangiihu has plans for a hut for a cafeteria The padre is also hoping to arrange team competitions in various games among the variety of units within the division. Inter-unit debating teams may be formed, and in fact anything that will give the men a chance to enjoy their off-duty hours is going to be provided
