LABOUR PARTY CANDIDATES
Sir, —I notice that the Parliamentary candidates selection committee of the Labour Party, with Mr A. H. Nordmeyer as chairman, is to visit Christchurch to interview prospective candidates. I wonder if I could get answers to the following questions: (1) Who actually makes the final selection of the Labour Party candidates for Parliamentary seats? (2) What say (if any) does an ordinary member of a brarlch of the Labour Party in an election have in the selection of a candidate? (3) Do the rights of an ordinary member of a Labour Party branch cease when the branph of the party of which he is a member has forwarded a nomination to the selection committee? (4) Is any selection ballot held by delegates representing all party branches in any particular electorate?—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. November 20, 1953.
