BRITISH TRADE WITH RUSSIA

30 Businessmen To Go To Moscow

(Rec. 11.40 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 18. Thirty British businessmen plan to leave London for Moscow on Sunday for top-level trade talks with Russia. They aim to sell electrical engineering equipment, and they believe that the Russians are ready to expand general trade with the West.

Before the war more than 6 per cent, of British exports went to Russia and Eastern Europe. Last year it dropped to 1 per cent. Trade experts believe that these sales could be raised to about £3,000,000 a year, even with the existing restrictions on strategic materials. This businessmen’s mission is not Government-sponsored, but it has the blessing of the Board of Trade. A spokesman for the board said: “We are pleased to encourage trade in nonstrategic items.”
