BRITISH FOOD HYGIENE

STRICTER LEGISLATION PROPOSED

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, November 8. The “Daily Telegraph” says that as part of the joint campaign by the Minister of Food (Mr G. Lloyd George) and the Minister of Health (Mr lain Macleod) for higher standards of hygiene in British restaurants and food shops, a bill to tighten the existing legislation will be introduced in Parliament this week or early next week. The bill will enable the Food Ministry to register and inspect premises used for the preparation and sale of food.

A British medical publication earlier this year accused Britain of being one of the least hygienic countries in Western Europe, it said the fact shocked many American and Dominion visitors.
