GREAT STORM IN U.S.
FREAK TIDE ENTERS NEW YORK (Rec. 10.30 pjn.) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. One of the worst autumn storms m history lashed New York and the eastern coast of the United States today ■with snow, sleet, and heavy ram. The floods have forced more than 10,000 persons from their homes, and swept piers and buildings out to sea. At feast 22 persons have been listed as Winds ranging up to 80 miles ■•an hour stove in shop windows in the heart of New York, and drove up a freak tide which swamped a city residential area on Staten Island. Some areas of' Staten Island were 6ft under surging waves. Police and firemen evacuated persons trapped in their homes. On Long Island, great waves swamped one of the main highways, and high winds brought down high tension power lines. Heavy snow fell in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, and in Mary,land, Arkansas and Nebraska.
