CITY COUNCIL BUSINESS

Sir, —Now that local elections are completed may I raise the following point? It has been the practice in the past for the City Council (a handful of mere men elected by an enlightened Christchurch public in order to have its views on matters pertaining to its interests represented democratically to go into committee when any question of real interest is raised. Surely those few lowly unelected publicminded citizens who attend council meetings have at least as much interest in the affairs of our city as any one councillor. Perhaps our councillors prefer to smoke and talk in private.—Yours, etc.. JOHN CITIZEN. Noyember 6,. 1953.
