GIRL GUIDES

ANNUAL REPORT In the annual report of the Canterbury Provincial Girl Guides’ Association. the South Canterbury division reports an increase in membership durI ing the year of 25 guides and 71 brownies and the formation of two new packs, making a total of 268 guides and 164 brownies.

The Christchurch south division reports: “A new company and pack has started at Mount Pleasant, and we have (been offered the use of the Sea Cadet ' barracks at Redcliffs for a Sea Ranger I company. We have a prospective cap- ‘ tain, and hope soon to start this exciting new venture.” The handicraft display held as part of the celebrations to mark the thirtieth birthday of guiding in* New Zealand had been a success and special praise is accorded the New Brighton pack and the committee who were responsible for arranging the display. New companies and packs had oeen formed in most districts, the north Christchurch division states in its report. It appeals to mothers to come with their children to learn guiding. In Akaroa a Sea Ranger crew, a guide company, i 4nd a pack of brownies are all working enthusiastically, the report continues. and new companies and packs are to be formed in the Seiwyn-district Several camps had been held during the year and the guides had helped at the nursery creche at the public hospital on two Sundays of each month. The North Canterbury division reports a quiet year and Mid-Canter-oury reports a good, successful and eventful year Most divisions mention gatherings arranged to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of guiding in New Zealand The provincial commissioner (Miss M. Oakeley. of Timaru). who had been overseas for six months of the year, has now returned to South Canterbury.
