RUSSIA’S AIMS

Sir, —According to “The Press” of November 5, 1953, Sir Winston Churchill said, “I do not find it unreasonable or dangerous to conclude that internal prosperity rather than external conquest is not only the deep desire of the Russian peoples but also the long interest of the rulers.” This is exactly what “thinkers” have pointed out in your columns for years; and yet the useful people have had millions of pounds legally stolen from them for armaments by the big lie — fear and threat of aggression. The Russians, Chinese, French and British know what war is; and if America insists, she will know also, and in no mean terms. No wonder Shaw said the world was an asylum.—Yours, etc., MELVILLE B. MITCHELL. November 6, 1953.
