OBITUARY
MR DANIEL COLEMAN Mr Daniel Coleman, of Redcliffs, died recently at the age of 76 years. He was well known as a sheep dealer and in the butchery trade. He was also interested in trotting. Born in Navarre, Victoria. Mr Coleman started work as a cadet on the well-known Tottington sheep station in Victoria. During the South African War he served with the Victorian Im'perial Bushmen, who afterwards became known as the Australian Light Horse. In 1904 he came to New Zealand in the employ of the Australian and New Zealand Land Company, and worked in the Oamaru district. About 1907 he came to Christchurch. At one time Mr Coleman was a prominent member of the Christchurch Sports Club. Apart from breeding trotters he served for a period as a steward on the Canterbury Park Trotting Club. He was a foundation member of the Sumner Masonic Lodge. Mr Coleman was also a member of the Ridgely Lodge. Mr Coleman is survived by his wife and two sons—Messrs D. K. Coleman, of Feilding, and J. A. Coleman, of Redcliffs—and one daughter—Mrs W. Olliver, of Papanui.
