AUCKLAND CITY MAYORALTY

LABOUR SUSPENDS CANDIDATE NO SUBSTITUTE TO BE OFFERED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 7. The Labour Party will not contest the Auckland city mayoralty. Mr R. S. J. Wrathall, Labour’s announced candidate, was suspended from the party at a special meeting of the Labour Representation Committee, and no other candidate will be put up. The only candidates so far announced for the mayoralty are the Mayor (Sir John Allum) and Mr J. H., Luxford, an Independent candidate. The L.R.C. meeting was called to hear a report from the executive. Mr Wrathall is vice-president of the L.R.C. More than 90 delegates from branches and affiliations attended. Mr Wrathall was also at the meeting. A motion that the executive’s report be received and that Mr Wrathall be suspended was carried with few dissentients. Mr Wrathall has also withdrawn from Labour’s list of candidates for the City Council.
