Max Faulkner, holed an lift putt to beat Dai Rees by one hole in the 36-hole final match of the “News of the World” professional match play golf championship at Ganton, Yorkshire, today. It was Faulkner’s first big match play triumph, and won for nim not only the £750 first prize, but probably the right to lead Britain against the United States in the Ryder Cup match, to begin at Wentworth, Surrey, on October 2.
